Incoming Superintendent Marc Gee told Middleton School District employees today that Lisa Pennington, who is acting as interim superintendent through June 30, will be the assistant superintendent beginning July 1.
Gee, who is completing his contract with Preston School District, begins in his new Middleton role July 1, but has worked with current staff and the Board of Trustees to build a new staff.
Gee said he interviewed three candidates for the position of assistant superintendent. He also talked to district staff and references before making the decision to appoint Pennington to the No. 2 spot.
“I am excited about the change in role for Lisa and have appreciated her leadership during the last few months of the current school year and I look forward to what her talents and experience will bring to the role of assistant superintendent. I also appreciate the other candidates for being willing to put themselves in that position. It continues to build my confidence and belief in how great Middleton School District is, and what it can continue to grow to be,” Gee said in an email to staff today.
Pennington was the District’s Director of Curriculum and Assessment when she was appointed for the interim role.
“I am excited for the opportunity to serve Middleton in this new capacity and look forward to a strong partnership with Superintendent Gee,” Pennington said. “I appreciate what the Middleton School District has provided me during my career and I look forward to continuing to support the needs of staff and students in this new role.”
Pennington has been with the Middleton School District for 15 years and has served as a middle school social studies teacher, high school PE teacher, 1:1 laptop advisor, vice principal, and curriculum and assessment director.
Pennington earned her Ed.S. in Educational Leadership: Superintendent from Northwest Nazarene University.
