I started my Viking journey as a first grader in 1964 and graduated with the class of 1977. Who knew I would find myself back at my alma mater. I guess what they say is true: Once a Viking, always a Viking.
Athletics was always a huge part of my life, so I was blessed to receive a volleyball and basketball scholarship to NNU. After two years as a Crusader I transferred to Pepperdine University. I played volleyball for the Division I Waves for two seasons under an incredibly skilled coaching staff. The knowledge that I gained from the Pepperdine program landed me a head coaching position back at NNU where I coached the Crusaders for six seasons (1983-1988).
Art came calling and I made a commitment to get back into public education. I had a four year teaching/coaching stint at Homedale before I found myself back at Middleton the fall of 1994. I received my Masters in Education (with an art emphasis) from Boise State in 1998. I retired my coaching whistle in 2001 and I haven’t looked back since. Art is now my focus both professionally and personally. I love teaching middle school art---the energy of that awkwardly-awesome-unique middle-schooler is contagious and I wouldn’t want to be any place else. Well, except maybe hanging out with my four fabulous adult children or playing with my five grandchildren.
Dorothy, you were right. There is no place like home. Middleton, you’ve blessed me abundantly and I thank you.
