Mr. Brad Calkins
I'd like to say hi to all of you and I’m excited to be a member of the Middleton High School staff. This is my third year at Middleton High School after moving back to the Treasure Valley (where I raised my children) after living in Coeur d’alene the past five years. I’m the father of four children son Michael, 35 (Principal in the Coeur d’alene School district) and three daughters Tiffani (29), Tenisha (27), and Shanae (26), and grandfather of 3 grandson’s (1, 2 & 5 yrs.), and a 6-year old granddaughter.
I spent the first 25 years of my professional career in private enterprise in residential/commercial property, moving/storage and retail management industries. I currently have an event management business in its fourth year, that I operate in the spring and summer months. In my previous career I noticed a need for students to refine their skills and be better acclimated to expectations outside of the school walls. I began my teaching career in 2006 at Vallivue High School and migrated north to Coeur d’Alene. My college career started at Idaho State University, B.S. Business, University of Phoenix, M.S. in Management Information Systems, and Ed. Spec. in Educational Administration from the University of Idaho. My teaching and coaching experience has allowed me to enjoy varying school district enrollment sizes and cultural backgrounds by choice.
The classes offered this year are: Web Design, Computer Applications, Business Strategies, Business Economics, Principles of Business, Principles of Marketing and Finance. I have always been very active with youth in the athletic community with over 25 years’ experience as a coach, official, club advisor, judge and consultant with the BPA and DECA organizations helping with state, regional and national competitions.
My teaching style is to instruct my classes in much the same manner as expectations in the workplace. Students will be allowed to use their own creativity, critical thinking skills, and research acumen to complete daily tasks. This will provide the necessary qualities to meet the high expectations in the workplace specific but not limited to: Responsibility, Respect, Accountability, Cooperation, Workmanship, Completion and Detail oriented. I am excited for the opportunity to teach/mentor your son/daughter this upcoming year. If you have any questions, ideas or a plan to help me better serve your children I will listen with open mind and ears.
