Mrs. Amy Hicks
My name is Amy Hicks and I am the Middle and High School Orchestra Director. Music has always been a big part of my life. I started taking piano and violin lessons when I was seven years old. I was lucky enough to join an elementary orchestra a year later. We met before school everyday at 7:00 in the morning! Since then I have been able to play in many other orchestras throughout my life. When I was in middle school I started teaching private lessons to kids in my neighborhood. Teaching was a great way for me to earn money as a teenager and a great start to my teaching career. In high school I joined my community symphony as well as playing in school and honor orchestras. Then my first year in college I auditioned and was selected to play a piano solo with the Southwest Symphony. I later earned my degree from Brigham Young University and went on to teach elementary music for a few years. I took a long break from school teaching to raise my family, but I continued to play in symphony orchestras and maintain a private music studio. I currently spend most of my time with my four kids and husband Steve, but still find time to play with the Meridian Symphony and occasionally ride my bike. This is my fourth year teaching orchestra in Middleton. I am so lucky to teach my passion and hope to help my students discover a love of making music.
