Mrs. Amy Hicks
My name is Amy Hicks and I am the Middle and High School Orchestra Director. Music has always been a big part of my life. I started taking piano and violin lessons when I was seven years old. I was lucky enough to join an elementary orchestra a year later. We met before school everyday at 7:00 in the morning! Since then I have been able to play in many other orchestras throughout my life. When I was in middle school I started teaching private lessons to kids in my neighborhood. Teaching was a great way for me to earn money as a teenager and a great start to my teaching career. In high school I joined my community symphony as well as playing in school and honor orchestras. Then my first year in college I auditioned and was selected to play a piano solo with the Southwest Symphony. I later earned my degree from Brigham Young University and went on to teach elementary music for a few years. I took a long break from school teaching to raise my family, but I continued to play in symphony orchestras and maintain a private music studio. I currently spend most of my time with my four kids and husband Steve, but still find time to play with the Meridian Symphony and occasionally ride my bike. I have been teaching in Middleton since 2015. I am so lucky to teach my passion and hope to help my students discover a love of making music.
“Music is the universal language of mankind.”
