    Math:  We are working on multiplication fluency. We will be working on fact families this week with multiplication and division. 

    Reading: We are rocking our Rome unit.  We will be reading The Magic Tree House Fact Tracker on Rome in small groups.  They will be reading either The Magic Tree House Vacation Under the Volcano or I Survived Pompeii in a small group.  

    Writing:  We are going to start comparing and contrasting Roman Gladiators vs Roman Soldiers.  They will be writing an informational Essay on either Roman Gladiators, or Roman Soldiers.

    Dress Up Week:

    Monday- Dress up as a different decade: 20's, 50's, 80's, ect... (Keep drugs in the past)

    Tuesday- Wear something wacky (Drugs of Tacky)

    Wednesday- Wear Red 

    Thursday- Dress up as your favorite superhero or wear something with a superhero on it (Superhero's say no to drugs)

     Please forgive me for the late blog post.  Between cheer, cheer camp, kids, and family events I just couldn't get it done this weekend. 

    Important!!!!  Your child will bring home your scheduled conference time on Tuesday afternoon.  Please send it back signed on Wednesday and let me know if the time works for you.

    Book Challenge: We started our book challenge last week.  Our goal is for every student to read 30 books.  When the whole class has achieved this we will then have a reading party. Students may read in class, and at home.  They may read a hard copy book or read a book off of epic.  Students will need to be able to take an AR test, an Epic Test, or give me a summary of the book to prove that they have read the book. Here is a list of the different types of books I would like them to read.

    Math:  We are working on multiplication fluency. We are focusing on the distributive property.  We will take our first math test on multiplication and the properties on Thursday and Friday.

    Reading: We are starting our Rome Unit.  We will start off with a D.B.I. to help spark their interest. They will be looking at pictures, articles, and a short clip on Rome throughout the D.B.I.  Then, we will read about Romulus & Remus, and Rome Then and Now.  We will be focusing on our RL 3.2 standard where they recount myths from diverse cultures.

    Math:  We are working on multiplication fluency.  I will have a small group working on multiplication strategies and the other group working on a project base learning assignment on multiplication.  

    Reading: We will be working on asking and answering questions in our reading centers.  We will be continuing our book clubs.  

    Writing:  We will be focusing on narrative writing this month.  We will be adding dialogue to our narratives this week. They will be writing a story about them and a person they would like to have dinner with "The Famous Dinner Party."

    STEM:  We will be creating a Balloon Powered Bus on Wednesday.

  • Welcome to Third GRADE

    Welcome to Third Grade!!  I am so excited to be your child's teacher!!  We have had a fabulous week and a half. Please don't hesitate to call or email if you have any questions or concerns.  

     

    Homework:  I sent home their folders on Tuesday this week.  Usually they will come home on Monday and then need to be returned on Friday.  Please cross out Monday and have your child start with Tuesday this week.  Your child is asked to read 20-30 minutes a night.  Then, we would like them to choose a reading strategy and complete the response.  Reading Strategies: summary, making a prediction, ask a question, make a connection, and visualize.  We will be practicing each of these strategies in class this week and next week.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. On the front of your child's folder is my email, phone number, classroom blog and your child's specials schedule.    

     

    Volunteers:  I will be contacting all of the parents who turned in their volunteer forms this week or next week.  If you would like to volunteer and I do not contact you please let me know. I am looking for a parent to decorate our door once a month.  Please let me know if you are interested.  I will be looking for volunteers to help out with reading centers from 12:15-1:15 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and or Friday.  Plus I would love to have a volunteer during math centers on Wednesday from 8:30-9:45.
