• Island of the Blue Dolphins

by Scott O'dell Year Published: 1960 Historical fiction
This is a classic book that tells the tale of Karana, a native american girl, who is stranded on the island of San Nicholas off the coast of California. This is a timeless tale of survival, self reliance, determination, and ingenuity. Karana's tale was introduced to me as a young girl. I fell in love with the story. I have read this book countless times.  It is a favorite book of mine to use as a close reading during our novel study time.
