There have been significant changes to how we will run the GT program this year with the hope our new model will make a big impact!
Since our GT students are gifted 24/7 we think the biggest bang for the buck is to insure strong, challenging curriculum and instruction from your classroom teachers. Our focus will be working with the teacher teams to write engaging and challenging units, utilize effective instructional strategies, and provide informative assessments to push our GT kids. As much as we are able we will help facilitate within the classrooms.
Another change is we will be case managing our identified GT kids. That means we will personally meet with all our GT kids to build relationships, find interests and strengths, and problem solve issues. We will keep a portfolio that showcases student work and we will provide feedback to help each student reach higher. We are so excited, and a little daunted, by this change. We expect success and are eager to wear our new shoes!
We will also be serving as instructional coaches to provide in house professional development to teachers in the continuous effort to sharpen and refine teacher practice.
Whew! We have shared our vision and goals with you regarding the GT program. Please be sure to contact us if you feel we are not striving to follow our own standards. We value parent feedback. It helps us improve.
