Did you know? The orange is unknown in the wild state and is believed to be first cultivated in China around 2500 BC. Christopher Columbus may have brought orange trees to Florida in 1565. Spanish missionaries brought the orange tree to Arizona between 1707 and 1710.
The orange is a hybrid between pomelo and mandarin and the tree is an evergreen, flowering tree that grows an average of 30 to 33 feet tall. Oranges are high in Vitamin C and calcium. An orange also contains several other key vitamins and minerals in smaller amounts.
There are many different varieties of oranges- Cara Cara/ Mandarin/ Blood oranges and navel oranges to name a few. They are excellent snacks and can be used in a variety of ways with meals. You might see them offered at breakfast/ lunch and dinner.
